Dive into the dynamic world of traditional music for a weekend of playing, learning, dancing, jamming, performance, and more. Upper Valley Music Center brings together some of the best traditional musicians in New England, all of whom are dedicated to keeping the tradition alive through performance and teaching. The weekend includes a number of events in Colburn Park which are free and open to the public, as well as ticketed workshops and concerts. Colburn Park Trad Music Festival includes many traditional music styles that have inspired the trad music culture of New England, including Scottish, Irish, French, Quebecois, English, and Appalachian.

The week-long workshop provides daily (Monday-Friday) private lessons, morning group class, and one hour of scheduled practice time for each student in beautiful Lubec, Maine. The workshop is open to students at all levels; there is no audition or entrance requirement other than owning an instrument and bringing it with you.

Ben Kulp and Rachel Clemente Evening Concert
Join us at Jim and Deb Alexander’s home on September 8 at 4:30 pm for picnicking and a 6:00 pm concert. The concert will feature Ben Kulp and Rachel Clemente performing Celtic tunes as well as new classical music.
Arrive any time after 4:30 pm for picnicking on the lawn and enjoy music starting at 6:00 pm as the sun begins to set. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on and any picnicking setup or food you would like.

While firmly rooted in the fertile ground of Scottish traditional music, harpist Rachel Clemente and piper Dan Houghton’s gritty, avant-garde musical interpretations put them at the forefront of Celtic folk musicians in New England. They are both avid tunesmiths and their repertoire reflects this as it features many original compositions as well as traditional melodies.
